\u201cIntegration is always the biggest risk when combining sections from two different manufacturers,\u201d says Andrew Smith, Group Manufacturing Manager at Independent Glass. Speaking about his company\u2019s recent upgrade, he continues: \u201cThe entire upgrade project with Glaston\u2019s ProL-zone went very smoothly. We\u2019ve now been able to increase our laminating capacity, run the line with flexibility and ease \u2013 and lower our energy consumption.\u201d<\/p>\n

Glaston is no stranger to Independent Glass. For over a quarter of a century, the laminating and glass toughening company has been investing in lines from Glaston for its three sites in Glasgow, Scotland, and the one in Mansfield, England.<\/p>\n

In late 2016, the company decided to upgrade the lamination oven at its Mansfield location \u2013 which focuses on structural glazing, architectural glass and balustrades \u2013 to better serve the growing needs of their market.\u00a0\u201cThe first question was whether to retrofit\u00a0the oven or to upgrade,\u201d Andrew\u00a0 explains.\u00a0\u201cWe looked at several options alongside of Glaston, but in the end, we decided to go with the advantages the ProL technology could offer, rather than an infrared retrofit solution.\u201d<\/p>\n

Integration of the new machine was a key\u00a0concern for Andrew and his team, since\u00a0the existing laminating line was from a different manufacturer. So he went to see another ProL-zone in Denmark\u00a0with Glaston\u2019s UK representative Steve\u00a0Brammer. The trip offered exactly what\u00a0Andrew wanted to see: Glaston\u2019s ProLzone working seamlessly with another\u00a0manufacturer\u2019s laminating line.<\/p>\n

Andrew says that his company has been\u00a0receiving benefits from the upgraded machine since day one. The machine has been operating in an extremely reliable manner. The new line has achieved increased capacity, greater flexibility and ease of running.<\/p>\n
