Automation streamlines production of oversized architectural glass

Founded in 1972, Zanatta Vetro has grown into a premium glass fabricator specializing in oversized insulating, heat-treated and laminated glass. From its headquarters in Montebelluna, Italy, approximately 60 km northwest of Venice, the company supplies high-quality architectural glass solutions for customers across Italy, France and even the United States.
Over the years, the company has contributed to numerous landmark projects, including Galeries Lafayette in Luxembourg, the Dior store in San Francisco and Torre Diamante, a 140-meter-tall icon of modern Milan.

A tempering line designed for high performance
The year of 2025 was no exception. As part of its growth strategy, Zanatta Vetro invested in a new Glaston Jumbo Series flat tempering furnace.
“Our goal with the investment was to further increase quality and production capacity, enabling us to enter new markets,” says Gastaldon.
By October, the line was fully installed and commissioned.
Designed for everything from small formats to ultra-large glass sizes, the Glaston Jumbo Series combines a range of unique features, including advanced heating control and intelligent convection technology. Together, these features ensure superior quality and flawless results required by the demanding architectural glass market.
“We are especially pleased with the low distortion level we can achieve,” Gastaldon notes.
A step change in efficiency with Autopilot
A key advantage of the new tempering line has been Glaston Autopilot, which Zanatta Vetro has been using continuously for several months.
Autopilot automatically manages tempering process parameters, helping operators achieve consistent results regardless of experience level. By minimizing manual control, it simplifies operations, reduces energy consumption and ensures stable quality across every shift.
“For us, Autopilot has delivered exactly what we expected. In practice, all the operator needs to do is load the glass. The system takes care of the rest,” says Gastaldon.
Since commissioning, the company has seen a clear difference in day-to-day production performance.
“Our operation is faster and more efficient, and our glass quality is consistently high,” he adds.
